Certified Master Builder Program

Responding to the need for public education and training specially tailored for building contractors, the Marion-Polk Building Industry Association created the Certified Master Builder Program in 1997. Legislation passed that year recognized this program as a pilot program in Marion County and the City of Salem. Legislation passed by the 2001 Legislature expanded this program statewide, allowing building officials around the state to grant certain privileges to Certified Master Builders with regards to plans checking and inspections.

Builders who meet a strict set of standards involving background checks and demonstrated experience in home building and/or remodeling are eligible to apply for the program.

Once accepted into the Certified Master Builder program, each applicant must complete a thorough 36 hour course in building codes and business management. The coursework is taught over a seven week period (one day per week) and a certification exam is administered by the Oregon Building Codes Division. Upon successful completion, a contractor may then use the Certified Master Builder designation.

The WVHBA is currently looking for its next class of qualified CMB participants. For more information on eligibility requirements or to apply, please contact the WVHBA office.
